The term excess weight refers to when weight gain, in the form of fat, has reached a point which affects a person's health. Essentially, excess weight occurs as a result of energy imbalance. This imbalance occurs, when energy from food and drink consumption is greater than the energy expenditure through the body's metabolism and physical activity, over long periods of time, resulting in the accumulation of excess body fat.

Every suicide is a tragedy that has a far reaching impact on family, friends and the community long after a person has died. This Framework for Action (FfA) sets out our ambition to meet the aims of the national Suicide Prevention strategy. We know that many people who die by suicide have a history of self-harm, but the relationship between suicides and self-harm are complex. Therefore, we want this FfA to deliver better outcomes to the people of Nottinghamshire who have suicidal thoughts and a history of self-harm who come to services, to their families and carers, or for those not in contact with services. We also need to improve our knowledge of what works in this field to ensure people get the support and help they need early.

This action plan has been developed by allocating actions against each priority of the Nottinghamshire County Suicide Prevention Framework for Action (FfA) and the Nottingham City Suicide Prevention Strategy (2015-2018), targeting all ages at increased risk of suicide and/or self-harm. Prevention of mental health problems by building mental resilience and intervention that aim to improve mental health crisis care is being progressed via the Nottingham City Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy (2014-2017), the No Health without Mental Health Nottinghamshire's Mental Health FfA 2014-2017 and the Crisis Care Concordat Action Plan. Although the Suicide Prevention Steering Group does have the responsibility for taking forward the Suicide Prevention actions forward the steering groups role is to feedback on the effectiveness of these actions developments in relation to suicide and self-harm prevention, intervention and postvention.

Tackling domestic and sexual abuse is a strategic priority for the police, health and community safety partnerships across Nottinghamshire. As such, a wide range of activity is undertaken by our statutory partners on a daily basis as to tackle domestic and sexual abuse as part of their core business. This can include statutory arrangements in relation to protecting vulnerable adults and children and bespoke activity relating to issues such as the Night Time Economy, Cyber Crime, `Troubled Families', Serious and Organised Crime and Urban Street Gangs.

Description

Tackling domestic and sexual abuse remains an important strategic priority across Nottinghamshire and collectively our partner agencies have a good track record of delivering results. In 2014/15, in particular, we saw greater levels of reporting and identification of abuse, greater investment in the services available to support survivors and their families and more individuals than in any previous year being supported to recover from the harm they have experienced. While recognising these achievements, we cannot be complacent as there is still much to do. We know that a large proportion of domestic and sexual abuse still goes unreported and that the nature, scale and complexity of these offences are ever changing. Tragic and high profile cases at both a local and national level offer a constant reminder of the importance of getting our response right first time, while on-line abuse, Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and other forms of hidden harm continue to present critical challenges for our statutory, voluntary, specialist and non-specialist service providers alike.
