Description

Air pollution is the top environmental risk to human health. This revised Strategy is the outcome of a series of workshops held with stakeholders during 2016 and 2017 to review the Nottinghamshire Air Quality Strategy 2008 and incorporates the most recent evidence of the adverse effects on human health and the environment, and national and local strategies for reducing emissions and exposure of all forms of air pollution.

Description

The environment can impact negatively on the health and wellbeing of the population and of all the environmental factors, air pollution has the greatest impact. This Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) has been produced as part of our statutory duties required by the Local Air Quality Management framework. It outlines the action we will take to improve air quality in Nottingham City Council’s area (and potentially that of the Greater Nottingham conurbation) and specific actions planned between 2018 and 2023. This action plan replaces the previous action plan which was integrated into the Local Transport Plan 2010 and primarily focussed on reducing congestion and traffic growth by providing alternative transport solutions to encourage people to switch from their cars to public transport (buses, trams and trains), cycling and walking (active travel) thus reducing emissions from road traffic. Progress implementing measures will be reported in Nottingham City Council's Annual Status Report.
